该三频道录像中分别展现了越南、边界和中国的实际空间，这三个空间以背景中山脊线的虚假连续性拼合在一起。这种形式上的连续因为画面中行动者的穿越而被打断：莽人们带着盐来到边界，呼唤放养于此的牛群；牛群来到界碑，舔舐抛撒在基座上的盐块。

在不同行动者的图景中，边界空间得到不同的表征：对于国家，它是不可逾越的神圣空间；对于边民，它是可以利用的弹性对象；而对于牛群，越南一侧的低凹地带可以躲避雨季的雷暴，中国一侧的水潭可以憩息，而界碑的台面则是每周补充盐分的场所。

The three-channel video shows the scene of Vietnam, the border pillar and China respectively, which are pieced together in a pseudo-continuity with the ridgeline of the mountains in the background. This formal continuity is interrupted by the crossing of actors in the picture: the mang people come to the border with salt to feed the cattle grazing there; the cattle come to the border pillars and lick the salt thrown on the plinths.

The border space is characterised in different ways by different actors: for the state, it is a sacred space that cannot be crossed; for the border people, it is a resilient object that can be utilised; for the cattle, the depression on the Vietnamese side provides shelter from thunderstorms during the rainy season, the waterholes on the Chinese side provide a resting place, and the pedestal of the pillar serve as a place to replenish the salt every week.
